Primordial Soup; Proenza Schouler, 3.1 Phillip Lim

Tumble To Wear
It's an amalgamation. How else am I to describe? The prints, the colors, even the fabrics; they all resemble a fusion of ideas. A visual inspiration board now made tangible, made moveable, made couture.
Jack and Lazaro weren't the only ones to turn out montage goes mainstream, let us not forget Mr. Lim.
There was first the floral that at a glance when done as the print for block letters could easily resemble graffiti. It blossomed into a florauge before being tempered by plaid: the volume of the pieces had been cranked up so loud that it was now simply a dull, soothing track of the background.

(cont.) The focus now? The layering of silhouettes, the intricate play of proportions, the strappy gladiator like quality of the sandal. Playing with a peekaboo effect, floral overals with no top beneath, sheer panels to cover high skirt slits, and even a bare belly or two, Phillip pushes on into a cluttered territory that is once familiar and covetable.
And then, there right there. Strength by way of military inspirations. Cheetah print, denim done in patchwork and even frayed, all in rapid sucession. Maybe a tad dizzying but all effortlessly cool, down town chic and all those other cliched and yet not in the overdone ways. It's a winner.
