Urban Outfitters to return to Columbia, permanently

After five years of speculation, Urban Outfitters to open location in Columbia Vista district

In 2011, Urban Outfitters brought a pop-up shop to the Vista area of Columbia, SC. I said then, though unconfirmed, that the Store on Tour was undoubtedly a market test for whether there was a demand in the market for the retailers bohemian style clothing and home goods. Today The State reports that after a tremendous amount of speculation, Urban will open it's first Columbia location in July at 912 Gervais.

While it's certainly a win for the city in terms of recognition and growth of the retail sector, it'll be undoubtedly bittersweet as the new business will compete with bohemian and Salty's, in Five Points and on Devine Street respectively, for customers.
